Refurbished electric motors are a more economical option, especially for heavy duty applications like mining operations. Priest Electric is one of the premiere companies that sell high quality re-manufactured electric motors in Idaho, Nevada and Oregon. Why do so many of our clients prefer re-manufactured motors instead of new?
Advantages of Buying Re-manufactured Motors
Cost is probably the main reason, but not the only reason. Electric motors vary in speed, horsepower, winding patterns, size and casing among other factors. Sometimes if can be difficult to find a new replacement that has the exact size and specifications needed. Heavy industrial customers know that rebuilt motors still perform efficiently and optimally. Detailed and in-depth studies performed by EASA have shown the re-manufactured or re-furbished motors are just as efficient, and in some cases even more efficient that new motors.
How Refurbishing Is Done
When a motor comes in for repair, if possible, it is put through a series of different tests, such as winding, and vibration. It is then taken apart, cleaned, and inspected for wear. Other steps include hydro-cleaning, baking, varnishing, and measured for proper tolerances. Shafts are checked, rotors balanced, bearings replaced, and the motor goes through the re-winding process. Every motor is thoroughly tested and must pass a series of quality control inspections before shipping back to the customer.
Types of Motors That Can Be Refurbished
Priest electric refurbishes a wide range of motors up to 5000 hp, and the recommended practices of ANSI/EASA standards for the repair of rotating electrical apparatus are followed.
Re-manufactured electric motors are more affordable and in most cases just as efficient as new units, offering customer substantial savings every year. However there are many other considerations besides cost, when deciding to go with a new or re-built motor.
